22nd November, 1932.
Sir,
4.
With reference to your letter, 92719/32, of the 17th
November, transmitting a copy of a telegram from the
Coly eff
Officer administering the government of Hong Kong regarding
the application of the Soviet Oil Trust for a site on
Government land for the erection of an oil tank installation,
I am directed by the Secretary for Mines to state that the
British Company which would be mainly affected if the Soviet
Oil Trust is allowed to establish itself in Hong Kong is the
Asiatic Petroleum Company (South China) Limited, an
important member of the Royal Dutch-Shell Group. The only
other considerable British Company that might be affected is
William Cory and Son, who have an oil bunker station there
in conjunction with the Standard Oil Company of New York
for the supply of fuel oil and Diesel oil. The Anglo-Persian
Oil Company is not concerned as they do not market oil east
of India and Ceylon.
The Under Secretary of State,
Colonial Office,
Downing Street, S.W. 1.
